We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    USACE completes major section of Route Bear highway

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineering District-South recently completed construction of a major eight mile section of a two lane roadway between Kandahar City and Tarin Kwot. The $11.4 million project is expected to increase commerce and significantly reduce travel time between the two cities.
  • Workers continue vertical construction at the 9th Commando Kandak project near Herat, Afghanistan. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineering District-South is building a base that will provide Afghan commandos with housing, dining, office and other facilities.

    USACE continued contracting and construction momentum

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineering District-South continued to meet its contracting and construction goals set for fiscal year 2012 during January. The South District exceeded first quarter goals and is on track to meet the second quarter goals as well.

    Nashville District holds its last lock operator training graduation

    The commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recognized the end of an era as he presented nine students from its lock operator class with graduation certificates at J. Percy Priest Lake, Jan. 31, 2012.
  • This gate marked the entrance to the Williams Field Army Air Station in 1942. Since then, the AAF has closed and the site has been returned to the former owners. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is currently conducting a Treatability Study/technology Demonstration at several of the sites as part of the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study of the formerly used defense sites.

    USACE talks FUDS with Southern Arizona residents

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District began clearing work Jan. 30 following a public involvement meeting the District hosted Jan. 26 to discuss the state of several of the former Williams Field Bomb Target Ranges.

    Eagles soar high overhead Dale Hollow Lake bird watchers

    Dale Hollow Lake park rangers assigned to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville district provided several free eagle watch tours to the public to showcase the eagles that make the lake their home every winter.
