LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Middle East District Employees Answer the “Essayons” Call

    Although the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District primarily supports military construction in the Middle East, several employees recently volunteered to assist with domestic disaster response missions, including wildfires in Hawaii and California and flooding in North Carolina. Guided by the Corps motto, Essayons—“Let Us Try”—team members provided critical support ranging from contracting and quality assurance to GIS mapping. Their contributions helped restore devastated communities and gave employees a deeper connection to USACE’s broader mission. From rebuilding schools and homes to offering comfort to survivors, each volunteer made a lasting impact during a time of crisis.

    Nashville District highlights contracting opportunities at small business event

    On May 20, 2025, small businesses gathered at Tennessee State University for BIZGOV Connect, a networking event focused on entering government contracting. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District led a breakout session offering direct access to contracting officers and updates on upcoming federal opportunities. Over 20 organizations, including the SBA, Turner Construction, and Metro Nashville Procurement, shared insights and resources. Attendees learned how to navigate SAM.gov and leverage programs for women-, veteran-, and minority-owned businesses. Organizers emphasized continued support for small businesses and encouraged follow-up through local APEX and SBA offices.

    USACE Completes Two-Week Regional Power Mission Exercise, Prepares for Upcoming Hurricane Season

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) successfully concluded a two-week Regional Power Mission Exercise on May 16, enhancing its readiness to provide critical temporary emergency power in the wake of a major disaster.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District Commander Col. Brian Sawser and City of Memphis Mayor Paul Young sign the Project Partnership Agreement to advance the Greenbelt Landing Project – a major recreational improvement initiative along the Mississippi River at Greenbelt Park. Located at River Mile 738, Greenbelt Park spans approximately 102 acres of public green space along the Mississippi River. Originally constructed in the late 1960s as part of the Mississippi River & Tributaries Project, the park has long served as a community hub for recreation and river access. The Greenbelt Landing Project will enhance the park’s infrastructure and amenities, including repairs to the existing boat ramp, construction of a second upstream ramp, installation of mooring anchors, ADA-compliant parking upgrades, and additional lighting for safety and accessibility.
