LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    ABIQUIU, N.M., -- Volunteers at the annual Midwinter Eagle Watch look for Bald Eagles from many areas around the project including these volunteers who were on the lake. 17 eagles were spotted this year.

    Nearly 20 Bald Eagles Spotted at Abiquiu during Annual Event

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Abiquiu Lake hosted its annual midwinter eagle watch Jan. 7, and it was a record count for both eagles, 17, and volunteers, 61. Employees were surprised when nearly twice as many volunteers arrived to participate as the previous record and when seeing nine mature and eight immature Bald Eagles.
  • SANTA CLARA PUEBLO, N.M., -- Maj. Seth Wacker and Robert Isenberg of the Corps’ South Pacific Division’s 59th Forward Engineering Support Team – Advanced (center), visit a freshwater site at Santa Clara Pueblo and meet with Adrian Garcia, a Santa Clara tribal member.

    District Achieves another First for Tribal Program

    In the first meeting of its kind, Robert Isenberg and Maj. Seth Wacker, members of the South Pacific Division’s 59th Forward Engineering Support Team - Advanced (FEST) joined District Tribal Liaison Ron Kneebone in a visit with representatives of two New Mexico Pueblos Dec. 14 and 15. They met with the Pueblo of Santa Clara and the Pueblo de Cochiti to provide the Native American tribes with critically needed engineering support to address local infrastructure issues and to provide FEST members with real-world training.

  • In December 2010, an ER-2 aircraft lifts off with MABEL from NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center in Palmdale Calif., headed for a forested region in the Sierras. NASA scientists have previously measured tree heights and ground topography here, which will be used to better understand what MABEL "sees" from the sky.

    TEC supports NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center

    Researchers with ERDC's Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) were asked by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center to design a Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) target suitable for use in the testing of the Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental LiDAR (MABEL) airborne test bed.

    ERDC Environmental Laboratory's (EL) Dr. Jeffery A. Steevens, a senior scientist in biotechnology, was invited to be a scientific member of the Governance Board for the Woodrow Wilson Institute Emerging Nanotechnology Project.
