LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of Natural History celebrated the arrival of the Wankel Tyrannosaurus rex on Apr. 15, making it the Smithsonian’s first ever T. rex.

  • The new Murray Elementary School includes 456 solar photovoltaic panels and 10 solar water heating panels on the roof. These panels will augment the facility's total electrical usage and heat about 40 percent of the building's hot water.

    Solar-powered school nears completion at Fort Stewart

    Construction nears completion on a $20.5 million environmentally-friendly elementary school at Fort Stewart. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District and prime contractor Sauer, Inc., the new Murray Elementary School is equipped with over 450 solar panels, a wind turbine, and other sustainable design features.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, celebrated the arrival of its newest vessel, the Model Vessel Curt Larsen, with a christening ceremony at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings, Minn., April 16. The MV Larsen was commissioned as a working boat by the district's public affairs office in 2013 to assist in the accomplishment of the district's community relations misson. The Larsen will be used to tow demonstration loads in the district's lock model. It was named after district lock operator Curt Larsen, who manufactured the boat. He created the vessel to be able to withstand thousands of children playing with it for a number of years.

  • A few boys stand next to one of the new water spigots in Puttalam, Sri Lanka. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District, U.S. Pacific Command and the U.S. Agency for International Aid are coordinating an effort to connect 371 family households to the town's water supply.

    Corps clean water project quenches thirst in Sri Lanka

    Clean water to satisfy parched throats and more time for other activities are becoming a new standard for 371 families living below Sri Lanka’s poverty line. The new hookups are drawing water from existing main supply pipes owned and operated by the Puttalam Water District alongside neighborhood roads. The additional network is delivering water to resident’s front door steps through an outdoor spigot and water meter.
