Celebrate the role black Americans played in our history

Black History Month 2020

Black History Month 2020

February is Black History Month, a time to remember the struggles and celebrate the courageous men and women of African and Caribbean Island ancestry whose lives are woven into the fabric of our Nation’s history and its future.

This month offers us an opportunity to celebrate the richness of black culture and pay tribute to the role black Americans played in the history of our great Nation. It is also a time to consider the lessons of the past and appreciate the hard-won triumphs of those who forged the foundation of civil rights for all Americans. It is an opportunity to reflect on the people who overcame adversity, enslavement, and other obstacles, yet remained steadfast and emerged to build the foundation of the United States of America.

Americans of all races, nationalities and ethnicities continue to advance America’s development and growth, and we are all living reminders that our country’s success and strength is based on its diversity of people and their differing thoughts, ideals and beliefs.

Black Americans contribute immeasurably to the success of our Armed Forces, serving daily with bravery and distinction across the entire spectrum of military occupational skills. As we think about the rich history of black Americans – not just this month but throughout the entire year – also be mindful of the ways in which we can continue to move TAD forward in our never-ending quest to ensure we reflect both the Nation we serve and the world we hope to leave to future generations.  As always, thank you for all that you all do each day both forward deployed and in CONUS.
